Ward Focused On Junior Year, Academics

Despite the fact that several high major programs are interested in his services, Gary Ward has not spent much time worrying about his recruitment. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound point/shooting guard from Mount Tacoma High School in Tacoma, WA., is more concerned about having a strong finish to his junior year and, more importantly, qualifying academically.
“Yes, Gary has been pretty solid for us this year,” Mount Tacoma High School Head Coach Owen Chambers told RivalsHoops.com. “He has really been a pleasant surprise with his actions out on the court. He has pretty good point guard skills, has a good handle with the basketball and is a decent shooter. We’re 19-2 overall and Gary has played a key role in the success we’ve had this year.”

A number of high major programs, including Utah and Wake Forest, have expressed an interest in Ward, but he has decided to remain focused on the task and hand. Ward is hoping to have a successful finish to his junior year, and to prepare himself academically for the next level.
“Gary has decided to take it slow when it comes to his recruitment,” Coach Chambers said. “There are a number of programs interested in him, but that’s something we will talk about when the time is right. My main concern is getting him qualified academically. Gary has not taken the ACT or SAT, but that is something he will be doing in the near future. It should not be a problem with it comes to Gary achieving a qualifying test score, but that is still something he needs to get done.”
