Wants To Stay Close To Home

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA -- Darryl Watkins, an outstanding 6-11, 220-pound junior center from Paterson Catholic High School in New Jersey, told us this past weekend at the Southern Invitational that he would like to stay close to home.
"I prefer staying close to home," Watkins said. "But if I see a school that I like a lot than I could change my mind. But right now I want to be near where I live."

Watkins told us he is currently interested in Syracuse, Villanova, PIttsburgh, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Connecticut, Virginia, and St. John's.
Watkins, who averaged 13 points and nine rebounds last season, is one of the better big men available in the class of 2003. "I am trying to work on every part of my game," Watkins said. "I also want to improve my offensive game and my defense too."
Watkins will again appear at the ABCD camp in July and play for Jimmy Salmon's T5T Playaz AAU program during the spring and summer months. "I haven't set up any visits," Watkins said. "If I get a chance to take some I will. I would like to make a decision in the Fall."
