Walkup in step with parents

Three-star 2007 prospect Nathan Walkup entered the evaluation period only with offers from some in-state schools. Just when high-major programs from across the country started recruiting the 6-foot-6, 185-pound small forward from Deer Park (Texas) High School, he has committed to play in the Big 12.
Walkup chose Texas A&M over offers from Rice and Texas A&M-Corpus Christie. After playing well in April, Memphis, LSU, Stanford and Miami entered the chase just before it ended.

A big pull to Texas A&M is his family ties to the school.
"Both my parents are Aggies," said Walkup. "I really like the atmosphere there. Basically, I think it is just a great place to go to school."
A good shooter with a solid all around game, Walkup averaged 22 points and 9 rebounds per game as a junior.
A diligent worker on his game, Walkup has pinpointed some areas where he wants to improve before he plays Big 12 basketball.
"I need to add some muscle mass and get stronger," he said. "I'm working hard on my ball handling, and I want to get more consistent on the defensive end."
