Danny Manning landed power forward John Collins for the third commitment for Wake Forest's 2015 recruiting class.
On Saturday, less than a week after his official visit to Wake Forest ended, Collins, out of Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach, FL) High School, committed to the Demon Deacons.
"It (the visit) was good, I had a great time," Collins said via text message. "Coach Manning and I have a good relationship. We connected because of our personality and he was once in my shoes. Except he was at Kansas."
The 6-foot-8, 220-pounder chose Wake Forest over Memphis, Miami, Vanderbilt and others.
Collins is a skilled power forward in the post, can also knock down mid-range shots, has a still developing body and promising upside.
"Coach Manning did a good job recruiting John," said Florida Flash AAU Program Director Greg Tejada. "He was one of the best big guys that played college basketball."
Tejada let us in on a little secret about Collins.
"His nose was broke," Tejada said. "John played most of the travel season with a broken nose. That's why he seemed sluggish at times, he had breathing issues. You get winded really fast with a broken nose."
Rated a three-star prospect by Rivals, Collins joins point guard Bryant Crawford (Rivals No. 78 prospect) and center Doral Moore (Rivals No. 48 prospect) in Wake Forest's class of 2015.
