Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning is known for his work with big men. He's added a new four-star prospect to his stable of talent
Multiple sources confirmed to Rivals.com on Tuesday that 6-foot-10 center Samuel Japhet-Mathias who attends the London Academy in England has committed to Manning and Wake.
Standing 6-foot-10 and checking in at 240 pounds, Japhet-Mathias is a true back to the basket center with good hands and soft touch. While not a high flyer, he has good footwork and does a great job of using his size to establish and hold position in the low post.
Japhet-Mathias actually spent the 2014-15 high school season in the States at Saxton's River (Vt.) Vermont Academy. At the time, he was considered a member of the class of 2017 and ranked in the top 70 of 2017 Rivals150.
However, he decided to return home to England and is now going to enroll at Wake Forest as a member of the class of 2016. Japhet-Mathias will retain his four-star ranking but will not be included in the 2016 Rivals150 because of his status as an International prospect.
A September official visitor to the Wake campus, Japhet-Mathias is the fourth member of the Demon Deacons 2016 recruiting class. He joins Rivals150 forward Donovan Mitchell, three-star point guard Brandon Childress and three-star small forward Richard Washington.
Congrats to #PSACardinals C Samuel Japhet-Mathias for making his college decision and selecting Wake Forest.- ProScholarsAthletics (@PSACardinals) September 29, 2015
