Voogd Set To Play In The SEC

Ben Voogd, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound point guard from Siuslaw High School in Florence, Ore., has decided to put an end to his recruitment. After taking an official visit to LSU this past weekend, Voogd has given a verbal commitment to the Tigers. Voogd contacted Coach John Brady and informed him of his decision.
“I called Coach (John) Brady to let him know that I have decided to give a commitment to LSU,” Voogd said. “The LSU campus was unbelievable and I really enjoyed spending time with all of the players. I also had the opportunity to spend time with all of the coaches’, and I liked all of them as well.

“I plan to enroll at LSU early in the summer,” he added. “I realize that the jump from high school basketball to the SEC will be big, so I need to be prepared for that. My recruitment really didn’t pick up until the Big Time and Best of Summer. The LSU coaching staff was looking at another player, but happened to see me in the gym. I am so excited about my decision and I am looking forward to playing for LSU.
Voogd had been receiving interest from Utah, Washington State, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Colgate, Northern Arizona and Portland State. Aside from LSU, the 6-foot-1 point guard had offers from Hawaii, Colgate, Northern Arizona and Portland State.
The Oregon native averaged 28.0 points and 8.0 assists per game as a junior.
