Mario Chalmers official visit to Arizona this past weekend could not have gone any better. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound point guard from Bartlett High School in Anchorage, AK., attended the Wildcats game on Sunday and, more importantly, had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the coaching staff and members of the basketball squad. “The visit to Arizona was outstanding. We arrived on Sunday and returned home on Monday night, but it was definitely a great experience,” said Ron Chalmers, Mario’s father and head basketball coach at Bartlett High School. “We went to the game on Sunday and really had an outstanding time. After the game was over, Mario talked with the coaching staff and some of the players.
“Some of the players pulled Mario aside and he really bonded well with them,” he added. “Overall, the visit was really a great experience.”
Coach Chalmers indicated that a large number of high major programs are hoping to get his son on campus for an official visit, but that isn’t an area of focus at this time.
“We’re just getting ready to start the playoffs, so that is really my main concern right now,” Coach Chalmers said. “The finals take place on March 20, so Mario and I will sit-down at the end of the season and decide what schools he wants to visit. Mario isn’t going to take all five visits. I would say that he will probably take two more visits at the most.
“Kansas, Wisconsin, Marquette, North Carolina, Wake Forest and UCLA are the schools being considered for the final visits,” he added. “I will let Mario decide which of these schools he wants to officially visit, but that will not happen until our season is complete.”
