Virginia Tech lands floor general

THE RIVALS150: 2015 | 2016

One of the first things that Buzz Williams and his staff did after landing the Virginia Tech job was prioritize 2015 targets. One of those early priorities was point guard Justin Robinson.
Sunday, sources close to the recruitment of the 6-foot-1 floor general from the St. James (Md.) School confirmed that Robinson will reward Williams and his staff's efforts with a commitment.
A slender point guard who has a commanding presence on the floor, Robinson currently sits just outside the Rivals150 but is a player with considerable upside.
Most importantly, Robinson needs to add strength to his lean frame. Once he adds the strength to play at the ACC level he will be very effective. He shows good command of the pick and roll, can push tempo and is dangerous enough with his jumper that he has to be respected from deep.
It is also important to note that Robinson is quite young for the class of 2015. In fact, Sunday wasn't just an announcement day for Robinson, it was also his 17th birthday.
Now that Robinson is a Hokie, Williams and his staff have a very solid start to their 2015 recruiting efforts. In addition to Robinson they have a commitment from rapidly improving Rivals150 big man Kerry Blackshear (who like Robinson is a year young for his class).
Next up, the Hokies have their sites set on four-star small forward Chris Clarke. A summer teammate of Robinson's on the powerful Boo Williams Summer League squad, Clarke is a high energy wing who is nearing a decision. Look for Clarke to announce within the next week or so and Tech is in the thick of it along with others like Connecticut, Creighton and Tennessee.
