Villanueva: No NLI for Illini

MILFORD, Del. -- It wasn't exactly a complete shock or a news flash on Friday night when 6-9 Blair star Charlie Villanueva confirmed that he did not sign a national letter of intent with Illinois.
Villanueva committed to the Illini back on Nov. 5 at a press conference held at Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J.

But it's no secret that he will put his name in the NBA Draft next spring if he is projected to be a lottery selection in the June draft.
"I didn't sign yet," Villanueva admitted. "I am going to sign with Illinois in April, unless something happens with the NBA."
Of course, there were over half a dozen NBA Scouts at Blair's game on Friday night against Our Savior. The Buccaneers, keyed by a second half surge courtesy of Villanueva and his outstanding teammate Loul Deng, fended off the Pioneers, 73-49.
More NBA scouts should be on hand today when Blair takes on Notre Dame Academy of Virginia at 3:30 p.m. in a Tommy Jacobs Memorial Shootout game at the War on the Shore.
"I still feel the same way about things," Villanueva said. "I am just going to play out there, and whatever falls in place, will just fall in place."
"If they want me, then I'm going to go -- lottery," he continued. "But I am going to play hard, that's not my main focus right now. I want to win a state championship."
