Vermont adds NC forward

Evan Fjeld, a 6-foot-7 forward from Durham (N.C.) Academy, verbally committed to Vermont after visiting the America East school two weeks ago.
Fjeld was the number one target for Mike Lonergan and crew in the class of 2007 and their hard work on the recruiting trail paid off on Monday night.

"For starters, it is a really good school and that was important to me," Fjeld said. "I think I can go there and compete for playing time and they have a winning tradition there.
"Burlington is a great place. It's really cool up there. When I was on my visit, we went out one night and hung out. It's really cool down their main street and a lot of people are out. They love basketball up there."
The North Carolina native also considered UNC Wilmington, Elon (where he visited last weekend) and American.
Fjeld played summer ball with the North Carolina Gaters and showed a knack for playing both forward positions. That is the role he will play for the Catamounts, he said.
"They want me to go inside and out and I've been working on my jump shot so I can help right away," Fjeld said. "I think I can be the big guy that trails and hits the midrange jumper."
