Verdejo to be a Wildcat

One of the worst kept recruiting secretes became a formal reality tonight as Jesus Verdejo officially committed to Arizona. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard who prepped at The Winchendon School this year should make an instant impact for the Wildcats.
“He just committed 30 minutes ago,” said Verdejo’s former AAU coach of the Miami Tropics. “I haven’t had a chance to speak to him yet, but I know he is very excited. He really wanted to attend Arizona.”

Verdejo signed with Temple last year but failed to qualify academically. He chose Arizona over Temple as well as Baylor and Kansas State partly because of Arizona’s fast style of play.
“He will definitely fit in their style of play,” said Coach Alvarez. “They got a chance to watch him play on his visit, and I don’t think any of them realized just how good he really is.”
Verdejo finished this past season with a 22 point per game average.
