VCU scores with guard

New Virginia Commonwealth head coach Shaka Smart has roots in the state of Ohio, and for his first commitment in the 2010 class he went back to those roots. Smart and his staff locked down a very impressive scoring guard in Rob Brandenberg.
In an era where prospects are scouted earlier and earlier, very few come out of nowhere, but that is pretty much what happened with Brandenberg. He wasn't even on varsity until his junior season at Gahanna Lincoln, but once he got up his high school's highest level, he made an impact.

A strong junior season led to college attention, but it was his extremely impressive summer that really drew them in. With his play, Brandenberg picked up offers from Akron, Ohio University, Loyola-Chicago, Marshall, Virginia Commonwealth, Wright State, and others.
However on an unofficial visit to VCU, Brandenberg knew he found his place. Brandenberg happily pulled the trigger.
"I'm committed to Virginia Commonwealth University," said Brandenberg in a text message on Saturday evening.
According to Brandenberg it was his comfort with the campus that made all the difference.
"It was just a matter of time," said Brandenberg. "When I was on campus, I knew it was the place for me."
Brandenberg will now team with 2011 three star point guard Stevie Taylor in what should be a very impressive Gahanna Lincoln High School backcourt.
