The 2018 class is going to be a key one for Bryce Drew and his staff at Vanderbilt. They got it started off in style when four-star Aaron Nesmith gave the Commodores the nod.
The 6-foot-6 wing confirmed his commitment on Tuesday morning and said that after reflecting on things, he felt the campus and the vision the Vandy staff had for him felt right.
"I've been waiting it out and waiting it out," Nesmith told Rivals.com. "I see it now that the campus life felt right. Then the big thing is that Coach Drew, Coach (Jake) Diebler, Coach (Roger) Powell and Coach (Casey) Shaw, the vision that they have for me makes sense and I feel I can get better there."
A high-level student and athlete, Nesmith is a well-built wing who is explosive off the floor. He gets tremendous lift on his jump shot, can finish through contact and is a strong finisher on the break and plays solid defense.
In reality, Nesmith is the first domino to fall in what Drew and his assistants hope can be a monster class.
They've had four-star combo forward Ignas Brazdeikas on campus and are squarely in the mix -- if not the leader for -- five-star point guard Darius Garland. The Commodores are also in the mix with five-star shooting guard Romeo Langford, so there's a chance to bring a huge class to Nashville. Both Garland and Langford are visiting Vanderbilt this weekend.
