Van Schaick A Good Catch For Fairfield

Mike Van Schaick, a 6-2, 165-pound combo guard from Glens Falls High School in Niagara, New York, recently made a commitment to the Fairfield basketball program. Van Schaick received some needed exposure this past summer by playing for Jim Hart's Albany City Rocks AAU program. The Rocks are considered one of the country's top AAU programs and many division one players have moved on from the Rocks after polishing their skills under Hart and his assistants.
"I was really happy playing for the Rocks," Van Schaick said. "I probably wouldn't have been offered a scholarship by Fairfield if I didn't play for the Rocks. I am very thankful to have had the chance to play for them. It helped me."

What it did was give Mike a chance to play in many highly regarded tournaments and also gave him the opportunity to play in front of many division one coaches. Van Schaick can play too. He is effective at both guard positions. Mike averaged 21 points, five rebounds and five assists last season as a junior. "I want to get stronger," Van Schaick told us. "I want to add some more pounds and muscle before I get to college."
Mike also considered Harvard, Princeton, Colgate, and American. "I really liked Fairfield on my visit," Van Schaick said. "I like what the coaches had to say. They play a really tough schedule. That was very attractive to me."
