Valiulis coming off of great weekend

After the Academy National Invitational we wrote: "Vytautas Valiulis, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound point guard from Lithuania, is a point guard that will work well with a number of low to mid-major teams." Now, the heady senior point guard from Montverde (Fla.) Academy is looking at a couple of solid options with his coachable attitude and floor demeanor.
Valiulis was named as the Most Valuable Player at Montverde's tournament over the weekend. With wins over Notre Dame Academy and Benedictine, Valiulis showed off his keen shooting skills (seven of 10 from three-point land), ability to run a team (two turnovers in three games) and court vision (13 assists) in the tournament.

"He did a great job and really ran the team," Montverde head coach Kevin Sutton said. "V shot the ball really well and just made everything go. He can't play any better than what he did."
Coaches from The Citadel and UNC-Greensboro are interested in Valiulis, a native of Lithuania. Both schools have offered and Valiulis visited The Citadel already in January. A visit to Greensboro is also in the near future.
We continued to write after seeing him in December: "He's a guy that will be the vocal leader that sets the tone of the game with his non-stop energy, dive on the floor mentality and his ability to run a the half court offense. Coaches will appreciate what kind of player he is."
