USA 3x3: Wynyard impresses

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The 16U trials aren't the only game in town for USA Basketball. The USA's 3x3 team was on hand practicing before
its trip to the world championships in Hungary. On Friday, the Americans scrimmaged
against New Zealand's squad featuring Kentucky commit Tai Wynyard.
Although an
opportunity to see how he played in a five on five game would have been preferred, it was nice to get a
first-hand look at Kentucky bound big man Tai Wynyard. A strong 6-foot-9 center, Wynyard looked like a sound big man.
Wynyard isn't a high-flyer as an athlete, but he gets and holds position with his strength and has a great feel for rebounding. He can make a jump hook, is able to play with physicality and has very good hands. Now rated as a four-star prospect, he told Rivals.com that he was still unsure of whether he would enroll at UK in December of 2015 or as a member of

While he showed his quickness on a few drives, Felton was mostly launching from deep. For a while, he got hot and the USA team got rolling as they beat New Zealand in their scrimmage.

While Wynyard has committed to Kentucky, teammate Matthew FreemanClick Payton Pritchard and Zach Collins had to scrimmage without the benefit of a substitute. Pritchard hit some deep jumpers and was also pretty aggressive driving to the rim. Collins wasn't connecting with his jump shot, but he had a few strong plays at the rim and boarded well for a stretch.Here to view this Link. is a hot commodity with high major programs in the
United States. A mobile, 6-foot-9 stretch forward, Freeman can shoot the ball, drive to the rim and he's a very good passer. Freeman said that he is currently planning to transfer to a prep school in the States after he finishes up school in New Zealand in the late Fall. Virginia, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Loyola Marymount, Notre Dame,Stanford, USC, California, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and Tennessee.
If and when he arrives in the U.S. for school, Freeman will do so as a four-star prospect. He will be playing in some live period events on the Adidas circuit

Though he signed a letter of intent, Timmins won't actually play at U Dub until the 2016-17 season. Timmins is a big and strong 6-foot-9, 240 pound center. He doesn't get pushed around much in the lane, holds his position and has good hands and soft touch around the rim.
