James Peters, a 6-8, 215 pound power forward from Butler County C.C. in El Dorado, Kan., will visit UNLV this weekend, and a commitment could be forthcoming shortly thereafter.

"It's his number one choice right now," Butler County Asst. Coach Eric Matthews told JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops.com in a recent interview.
Peters begins his official visit to UNLV on Friday Sept. 7, and will return to Kansas on Sept. 9.
Kansas State, Texas Tech and Illinois are among the schools who have called on Peters this summer, but barring a major shock, he is expected to choose Charlie Spoonhour's Rebel program after his visit wraps up.
A Windy City native who attended Julian H.S., Peters had a chance to rub elbows with former Rebel and current Phoenix Sun Shawn Marion at a summer pro-am in Chicago, and that further enhanced his interest in the Mountain West school.
UNLV Asst. Coach Derek Thomas has a close relationship with Juilan H.S. Head Coach Loren Jackson, and that has also played a role in Peters' affinity to UNLV.
Peters averaged 13 points and six rebounds per game as a freshman for the Grizzlies, and he is one of the better returnees in the Jayhawk Conference this fall.
Matthews said that Peters will probably need the summer to graduate, although there is an outside chance that he could get it done by the end of the spring 2002 semester.
JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops will get several chances to see Peters in action this winter, and we'll keep you posted on his progress this season.
We'll also let you know when and if his commitment to UNLV becomes official.
