UNLV Snags Another Top Prospect

Davon Jefferson, the No. 60 ranked player in the Rivals150, took one visit and knew it was the right place. On Sunday afternoon the 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward from Lynwood (Calif.) High School gave a commitment to UNLV.
"As soon as I got there, I got along really well with the staff and the players,” said Jefferson. “I like the school and campus a lot, and it just felt like the right fit for me. I like the of style of play that UNLV will be running. They are putting together a great recruiting class. I had a chance to play against Jovan Adams a couple times this year. He is going to be a great point guard.”

Although Jefferson pulled the trigger on his first visit, he also claimed to have offers from Arizona, Washington, and Kansas. UNLV, who is stockpiling with a tremendous 2005 recruiting class offers early playing time for Jefferson at a position where he is still developing.
"I should be able to go in and get a lot of early playing time at small forward,” said Jefferson.
Jefferson, who averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game as a junior in high school, is one of the better athletes on the circuit. Offensively, he excels in transition and as an offensive rebounder. Defensively, he can guard multiple positions and alter shots with his athleticism. He does need to improve his overall skill level to be effective as a small forward in a slower paced game.
Along with Five Star point guard Jovan Adams and Four Star prospect Davon Jefferson, UNLV also has a commitment from the high school ranks from Three Star small forward Joe Darger.
Although Darger and Jefferson will both be vying for playing time at small forward, the differing natures of their game will allow them to compliment each other on the court at the same time. Darger specializes in shooting and passing, while Jefferson excels in the more athletic aspects of the game.
