Prior to his sophomore season of high school, small forward Justin Jackson made the move from Canada to the Las Vegas area to attend Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep. Now, the No. 33 player in the class of 2016 has made the move a little more permanent.
Monday night, the high four-star wing committed to UNLV.
"I just felt a sense of family," Jackson told Rivals.com. "I feel like they have a very good future planned out for me. Every thing we have talked and discussed about seems like the right fit.
"They will allow me to have the ball in my hands a lot. They will let me be the player that I really am. I can come off of ball screens and they will allow me to handle the ball and make plays."
Standing 6-foot-7 with long arms and plus athleticism, Jackson can play out on the wing or he can even play as a power forward in a smaller lineup. According to Findlay head coach Andy Johnson, Jackson has only diversified his game over the past few months.
"He's taken some big steps this summer with his game," said Johnson. "His work ethic went up and he had a huge summer. He just kept working and working and every aspect of his game has gotten better. He got into better shape and the versatility that he has in his game is going
"He can score from all three levels, he's a great passer and can really dribble for a guy who is almost 6-foot-8. He can rebound really well and take the ball of the glass and go coast to coast."
After a sophomore season that was somewhat of a disappointment, Jackson says that he has regained form and with his recruitment out of the way he is ready to show everybody what he is all about.
"Last year I didn't do too well and we had a tough year," said Jackson. "This year I'm ready to take on a leadership role and show people who I really am."
