Under Armour wraps in SoCal

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. -- Uncommitted four-stars D'Shawn Schwartz, Paul Scruggs, and Ira Lee were among several Rivals150 players to participate as The Under Armour Association wrapped up its third and last session of the spring, and each gave updates as to where their recruitments stand.

THREE STANDING OUT FOR SCHWARTZ

It took a few events to get settled in with his new team KC Run GMC, but four-star wing D'Shawn Schwartz is once again looking like the player Rivals.com first saw at last October's USA Basketball developmental camp.

Well-built and a good athlete, Schwartz had it firing on all cylinders while finishing the weekend with 18 points and four rebounds in a win. He shot the ball well on jumpers, used his body to create some contact and played to his No. 53 overall ranking in the class of 2017.

Playing his first spring with Run GMC, Schwartz said that he's feeling settled in.

“I thought that I played pretty well this weekend," said Schwartz. "Two games I was really good, I had one game that was pretty slow for me and my other game I was solid.”

On the recruiting front, Schwartz said that he's targeting late August for a decision and that three programs are out in front.

“I don’t want to sound like a broken record but Colorado, Stanford and California are standing out," said Schwartz. "I’m going to try and set up some visits here soon.”

SCRUGGS HAS A FINAL EIGHT

The No. 32 ranked player in the class of 2017, 6-foot-4 combo guard Paul Scruggs of the Indy Hoosiers had his best weekend of the spring.

The physically tough four-star shot the ball well off the dribble, changed speeds and directions to keep defenders off guard and competed on both ends of the floor.

Scruggs discussed his final eight of Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Ohio State and Xavier with Rivals.com's Krysten Peek.

LEE PLANNING UNOFFICIAL VISITS

The No. 48 ranked player in the class of 2017, power forward Ira Lee finished his weekend strong by registering a double double in his Earl Watson Elite squad's win over the DC Blue Devils.

Athletic and capable of playing with great physicality, Lee has a tremendous motor to match very good athleticism. He's become more comfortable putting the ball on the floor and looks better and better with the 12-15 foot jumper.

Lee told Rivals.com that he's looking to set up June unofficial visits to Arizona and Stanford. He also talked about why some programs have made a strong impression and what coaches see in him down the road.

“Texas, Arizona, California, USC and Oregon are probably coming the hardest. I feel like I’m building a genuine relationship with those head coaches and they tell me specifics about what I could do at their school as a freshman.

“They like me as an all around forward. They like that I’m bringing the ball up after rebounds now. I’m also making more jump shots.

MORE SUNDAY NOTES...

Devon Dotson

Playing the best we've seen him play so far this grassroots season was Team Charlotte point guard Devon Dotson. Tough and aggressive, Dotson has forced the issue a bit too much at other points in the spring but his game was impressive on Sunday. He scored off the dribble, got others involved and showed why he's ranked No. 51 in the class of 2018. Dotson holds offers from North Carolina, N.C. State, Georgia, Clemson, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Florida and many others.

California got themselves a solid performer in 2017 Rivals150 guard Jemarl Baker. Pushing 6-foot-3 with a strong body and ability to strip the nets from beyond the three point line, he's a versatile guard. At Cal, it won't be a surprise if he plays both the one and two and he's got the kind of physical profile that head coach Cuonzo Martin loves.

Four-star shooting guard Myles Cale looks like he's going to have a terrific career at Seton Hall. One of the most aggressive scorers in the UA Association, he loves to attack off the dribble and either get to the rim or pull-up from between 12 and 17 feet for mid-range jumpers. He's looking like the kind of kid who could start three or four years for the Pirates.

Also having a very solid weekend was Splash City point guard Damari Milstead. The 6-foot-1 three-star floor general does a good job of using his body to shield defenders from the ball and he's a crafty finisher near the rim who also excels from mid-range. After some questionable shots in his first game of the weekend, he was very economical and efficient. Among Milstead's most recent offers are Wyoming, St. Mary's and UC Davis and he figures to stack many more this summer.

Given the level of his current play and overall skill level, a ranking of No. 16 nationally in the class of 2018 is probably a bit ambitious for Jaedon Ledee. But, the 6-foot-7 forward from Houston looked much better in Garden Grove than he had earlier in the spring in Nike's EYBL and last October at USA Basketball. Ledee is most comfortable around the hoop right now and he was active on the glass and used his length, energy and athleticism to allow him to make plays. So far, his switch to the Houston Defenders looks to be a good one.

He's still working his way into tip top shape, but Auburn-bound big man Austin Wiley looks pretty good. After about a three month layoff, the 6-foot-10 center looked good rebounding the ball and his touch looks improved. He's always talked up for his size, ability to board it and ability to bang on both ends of the floor. However, the five-star prospect is going to be a pretty good offensive player on the next level too.

A class of 2018 player that we'll look forward to seeing more of is high scoring combo guard Lamar Norman of 1 Nation's 16U squad. He gets where he wants with the dribble, was making jumpers and also mixing in some tough finishes at the rim.
