One of the South's top scorers, four-star shooting guard Brandon Robinson is off the board.
During a Monday afternoon press conference at Douglasville (Ga.) Douglas County, the 6-foot-5 senior announced he will be playing his college basketball at North Carolina.
"It's a basketball school," Robinson told Rivals.com. "They have a great tradition with guards there. Coach Williams and Coach Davis are great guys."
The No. 76 ranked player in the 2016 Rivals150, Robinson helps fill the Tar Heels' need for wing talent. Even if sophomore Justin Jackson doesn't leave for the NBA after this season, the Heels have been looking at a roster that would only have three natural wing players on it. If Jackson does go, the number would have only been two, so adding Robinson addresses a huge need.
While the Heels have had wing talent over the past few years, they have lacked consistent shooter and that should be the biggest area where Robinson can come in and help. He is thin and will need to add weight to his 170-pound frame, but Robinson is a bona fide jump shooter with three-point range on his jumper.
Robinson is also an excellent transition athlete and a pretty capable playmaker off the dribble. During his official visit to Chapel Hill earlier in September, he was able to see first hand how he would fit.
"They showed me film of their guards and how they play just like me in how they shoot the ball and make plays defensively," Robinson said after his visit. "They like their guards not only to be able make shots but to able to make plays for others."
After a tough year recruiting the class of 2015, North Carolina has been able to add two four-stars for this cycle. Robinson joins Florida big man Tony Bradley, who ranks No. 30 overall.
