UMASS, UCONN, BC Pursue GT Transfer

In a surprise move, forward/center Ed Nelson has asked for his release from the Georgia Tech basketball program. Nelson, who averaged 28 minutes a game for Paul Hewitt's program, was a big part of the Georgia Tech success over the past couple of seasons. In fact, Nelson was named to ACC Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
Nelson has been given his release by Hewitt. A source close to Nelson tells us he is likely to visit Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Boston College. These three schools appear to have the best chance of convincing Nelson to transfer from the Atlanta-based university.
Nelson is a player who does a nice job on the boards. He works hard on both ends and appeared to have been given a good opportunity to thrive on the college level. So the transfer is a bit of a surprise. But Massachusetts, Connecticut or Boston College would certainly gain a capable inside player if Nelson decides to officially transfer.
