UMass lands a couple three-stars

UMass went into the D.C. area and snagged two more three-star prospects out of the 2009 class with commitments from Javon Farrell and Raphael Putney.
Farrell, a 6-foot-4 wing from Upper Marlboro (Md.) Riverdale Baptist School, chose Coach Kellogg's program over George Washington, St. Bonaventure and Florida Atlantic according to his coach Lou Wilson.

"Javon really felt comfortable with Coach Kellogg," said Coach Wilson. "They really hit it off. He thinks Coach Kellogg is a player's coach and someone he can play for and excel at a high level. He also enjoyed the school and the environment when he visited."
Putney, who is a 6-foot-8, 170-pound forward from Woodbridge (Va.) Senior High School, runs with the Triple Threat travel team program and will conjure up images of former UMass standout Marcus Camby.
UMass also has a commitment from a third three-star prospect in Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy's Freddie Riley.
