UMASS Goes North To Land Recruit

The Massachusetts basketball program went North to land a commitment for the 2004 class. Olivier Lamoureux, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward from Champlain St. Lambert (same school as Kentucky's Bernard Cote), made a verbal commitment to Steve Lappas' program this morning. Lamoureux plays his basketball at a high school located in Montreal, Canada.

Lamoureux was also being recruited seriously by Wyoming, Loyola-Marymount, and St. Bonaventure. Lamoureux will be eligible to play for Massachusetts in 2004-2005.

Lamoureux is a skilled big man who has a nice touch on his jumper. He has the ability to knock down medium range shots and is likely going to have a chance to grab some minutes as a freshman for Lappas and the Massachusetts program.
