Just two weeks ago, power forward Tai Wynyard made the long trip from New Zealand to take official visits to Kentucky, Texas and Villanova. Sunday, he informed Rivals.com that he has committed to Kentucky.
A 6-foot-9 power forward who has made a name for himself at Rangitoto College in Auckland New Zealand, Wynyard told Rivals.com that John Calipari and his staff delivered a message to him that resonated during his official visit.
"They said they were going to push me hard and that's what I want," Wynyard told Rivals.com. "So that's why I thought it was the right fit."
Big and strong, Wynyard is regarded as having good touch and the ability to finish with either hand near the rim. His exposure to American scouts has been fairly limited but he was brought to the attention of Kentucky by former college coach George Raveling who saw him play at a Nike camp in Asia.
As things stand, Wynyard is considered a member of the class of 2016 where he is Kentucky's first commitment. However, there is a chance that Wynyard could arrive in Lexington sooner, he just isn't yet sure what the plan is going to be moving forward.
"No clue," said Wynyard when asked about when he expects to arrive at Kentucky. "Possibly December this year or next year, I seriously have no clue."
