UGA adds late hoops signee

Notre Dame Academcy coach Larry Cullinane told RivalsHoops.com on Saturday that Marcus Sikes, 6-foot-6, 225-pounds, has signed a letter of intent with Georgia.
Sikes is a combo forward who has qualified academically. He averaged 13.2 points and 6.7 rebounds as a senior at Notre Dame. Iowa State, Nebraska and Georgia State also recruited Sikes this spring; he also had offers from South Alabama, Rider and Coastal Carolina.

Sikes led the Dragons to a 60-57 victory over National Christian Academy (Ft. Washington, MD) for the Washington DC-area's Beltway League Championship. Sikes had 15 points and nine rebounds in the contest.
New Georgia basketball coach Dennis Felton, who released four of the five prospects signed by former coach Jim Harrick, also signed Steve Newman, a 6-8, 235-pound power forward from The First Academy in Orlando, FL. This past season Newman averaged 23.7 points, 12 rebounds and 4.2 blocks per game.
The one fall signee who remains headed to the Bulldogs is Corey Gibbs, the 6-8, 235-pound forward from Redan High School in Georgia who averaged 22 points, 15 rebounds and 5.5 blocks as a junior at Pace Academy.
