UCLA nabs four-star Tyger Campbell

UCLA filled its upcoming void at the point guard position by landing the commitment of four-star guard Tyger Campbell. A member of the 2018 Rivals150 since its inception, Campbell is as sturdy as they come, regarded as one of the best facilitators and playmakers in his graduating class.

A six-foot tall point guard prospect that has been a highly thought of name throughout recruiting circles in recent years, Campbell has played at the highest level on both the travel and high school circuits.

Campbell was originally committed to DePaul, but back off. DePaul was back in the running a second time around before UCLA won out.

Last season, Campbell was responsible for leading La Lumiere to the Dick’s National High School Championships, the primary playmaker alongside Michigan State, Louisville and Michigan recruits. While he has taken on greater responsibility this year as a scorer, Campbell’s primary value for the Bruins will come with his ability to create for others, a pass-first agent that is relatively missing on this year’s UCLA squad.

Receiving his final official visit, UCLA was able to fight from behind to land Campbell’s services

With the likely departure of Aaron Holliday a year early to the NBA Draft in the spring, Campbell enables for a smaller backcourt to be produced playing alongside current freshman standout Jaylen Hands, where both can be leaned upon to bring up the basketball but also provide quality defensive pressure out top. Furthermore, his unselfish nature should be a welcome point for the vast scoring weapons that the Bruins possess including Kris Wilkes, Chris Smith and Campbell’s fellow class of 2018 commits.

The fifth commitment in the 2018 class, Campbell joins fellow Rivals150 seniors David Singleton and Jules Bernard in the backcourt, as they will be boosted by defensively minded center Kenneth Nwuba and five-star big man Moses Brown, a group that cements their standing as a top-five recruiting class this winter.
