UCLA lands Rivals150 wing Jules Bernard

UCLA remained in the hunt for an immediate scoring weapon this fall and today, the Bruins landed the commitment of Rivals150 four-star wing Jules Bernard. A lefty known for his ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways, Bernard brings an immediate scoring punch and loads of confidence to Westwood.

A 6-foot-6 scoring wing, Bernard chose the Bruins over his other finalists including Oregon, USC, Kansas and Miami. A lefty that can score the ball from out to 20-feet, off of balanced pull-ups from 15-feet and on nifty finishes through contact at the rim, the California native should become an integral part of the Bruins’ offense immediately next season.

Making it official for UCLA on Tuesday, Bernard’s travel director, Etop Udo-Ema, gave further insight on his decision. “I think he wanted to be in a situation that he could get on the floor and play right away; that was pretty high on his priority list. UCLA has a good amount of NBA turnover so there is enough opportunity, which was another factor for him,” he said. “When it comes down to it, he felt really comfortable with the players and the coaches because those are the guys that he is going to go to war with for however long that he is there for.”

Running with the Compton Magic unit this summer, the same travel program as current freshmen Jaylen Hands and Jalen Hill, Bernard should have the chance to earn immediate minutes on the perimeter during his freshman campaign. The Bruins’ roster is chock full of guard and frontcourt depth, though they lack for a scoring wing piece, a role that Bernard could take on.

The second commitment in the 2018 class for UCLA, Bernard joins scoring guard David Singleton in replenishing its backcourt talent. The Bruins will continue to chase some of the top prospects still available this fall coming in the form of five-star recruits Romeo Langford, Darius Garland, Moses Brown and Jordan Brown, along with Rivals150 center Bryan Penn-Johnson.
