UCLA, IU, UConn Pursue Villanueva

One of the more talented big men in the class of 2003 has to make a decision soon on whether he will put his name into the NBA draft. Charlie Villanueva, 6-10 from Blair Academy in New Jersey, is likely to make a decision next week.
"He has to sit down and see where the information is right now," said Villanueva's AAU coach, Gary Charles said. "He is still in the stage of getting information. Once he has it all, he will sit down with his family and friends. Then he will make a decision."

Villanueva, who has great range on his jumper and is also a terror in transition, has already made a verbal commitment to Illinois. However, the coaching change at Illinois has opened up the process.
When asked if the list of schools that would be considered were UCLA, Indiana, and Connecticut, Charles said: "Yes. But Charlie has to make a decision on whether he goes to college or the NBA."
Charles would not comment on where Villanueva was leaning. However, a source close to Villanueva said it looks like this talented big man will not apply for the NBA and make a college decision unless more positive news is given on where he might be drafted in June.
