it could add five-star big man Stephen Zimmerman to
its 2015 class. When Zimmerman picked UNLV on Thursday night, the Bruins wasted little time making a move and scored with junior college freshman post Ikenna Okwarabizie on Sunday.
A 6-foot-10 center from Tyler (Texas)
Junior College, Okwarabizie is a native of Nigeria who attended high schools in St. Louis and Iowa before heading to Tyler.
This weekend, the 245 pound post player to a visit to Westwood and early Sunday morning he tweeted out that he had committed to Steve Alford and the Bruins.
"I'm proud and happy to say that I'm a Bruin," tweeted Okwarabizie. "UCLA bound."
Unlike most junior college players who have two years of eligibility, Okwarabizie was a full NCAA qualifier out of high school and will have three years to play in the Pac-12.
His size and strength are easy to see and during his his high school and junior college time the three-star prospect has embraced physical play. Though he isn't a high flyer, Okwarabizie does run the floor pretty well and he is a good rebounder. He will need to work on his offense and scoring with more efficiency around the rim.
As a freshman Okwarazibie averaged 6.5 points and seven rebounds while shooting 43.9
percent from the field and 57.9 percent from the free throw line. The fourth prospect to select UCLA in 2015, he joins four-star shooting guard Prince Ali, four-star combo guard Aaron Holiday and three-star faceup four man Alex Olesinski in the Bruins recruiting class.
