UA camp: Major decision for Cameron

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Tim Cameron can appreciate the Under Armour All-America Basketball Camp Powered by Rivals.com more than most prospects. The three-star shooting guard didn't have a chance to play in front of college coaches during the second April evaluation period because of a sprained thumb.
The injury forced the 6-foot-4 Cameron to the sidelines, where he had to watch his Atlanta Xpress teammates play in Louisville in the Under Armour Association without him. Now fully healthy, the Hargrave Military standout is itching to play in front of college coaches and potentially earn more scholarship offers.

"It's a lot more pressure because they have to see what I can do now," said Cameron, a class of 2016 prospect. "I definitely have a lot that I have to prove in my game. It should be fun. I really think it's going to be a good July."
Despite missing some time this spring, the recruiting process has been going strong for Cameron. So far, Cameron claims scholarship offers from Georgia Southern, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Western Kentucky. Also, Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Miami plan on watching Cameron play during July.
The 6-foot-4 guard already took one official visit during the fall and he's also seen a few campuses during unofficial visits.
"I took an official visit to Georgia Southern in the fall," Cameron said. "I took a bunch of unofficials. Tennessee, Georgia Tech. I was supposed to take one to Ole Miss but it didn't work out. But I think I should be taking one soon there."
Tennessee has been one of the schools showing Cameron a lot of love and the Vols recently offered him a scholarship. The visit to campus made a positive impression on Cameron.
"It was great," he said. "The coaching staff, everybody was wonderful. The gym was beautiful. It's great, it was amazing. I was blown away by everything. The locker room was crazy."
Georgia Tech is another program that Cameron has seen up close and he's intrigued by the prospect of playing close to home. The Yellow Jackets have yet to offer a scholarship, but they've been actively communicating with Cameron.
"I go up there usually on Wednesdays and play with the dudes sometimes," Cameron said. "But they showed me everything and it was beautiful. Campus and everything, I like Georgia Tech's campus a lot."
Besides the unofficial visits, Cameron has a few more campuses he would like to check out, including a potential official visit during the month of August.
"I definitely want to get to Ole Miss. I should be going there soon," Cameron said. "Middle Tennessee State, I'm probably going there in August. But after that, everything is open right now."
One of the key factors that will play into a decision from Cameron will be whether the school has his desired major of mechanical engineering. Stability from a coaching standpoint and fitting in with the style of play will also factor into Cameron's future decision.
"They have to have my major first; school is first. If they don't have my major, I can't really go there. If you fall and hurt yourself, you can't play basketball anymore," Cameron said. "How long the coach is going to be there, stuff like that. And if I have a feel for it or not. How their offense is, how their defense is, how they run things. Some people fit differently in certain situations."
Basketball is a major passion for Cameron, but he's also keen on pursuing his engineering goals.
"I'm really good with my hands and doing stuff, building; taking stuff apart," Cameron said. "But really, my main thing would be to go into mechanical design because I'm really good at drawing and designing stuff. So, I would minor in architecture too. I just love it."
Playing in nine games this spring with the Atlanta Xpress in the Under Armour Association, Cameron averaged eight points, four rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest.
