Two-sport Florida star seeing stock rise

One of the top two-sport stars in the Sunshine state is Joe McCray from Dillard (FL) High School. With scholarship offers in hand from Clemson, Michigan State, and Marshall he is also receiving serious interest from Florida State and Miami and those schools make up his top five schools.

“I guess the three schools that have offered are ahead of everyone else but I think Florida State and Miami will offer soon,” he said. “However, between all five, I don’t have an overall favorite and I plan to visit them all before I decide.”
The toughest decision McCray, who is rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com in both football and basketball, might be which sport the talented shooting guard and wide receiver will play.
“I would really like to play both in college. I’ve told all of the schools recruiting me for football that I plan to walk on the basketball team,” McCray said. “Basketball is probably my favorite sport and I’m not ready to give it up yet.”
Michigan State was the first school to offer McCray, 6-foot-4, 193-pounds, a scholarship and they are the college that has stood out the most at this point in the recruiting process.
“Michigan State has been there from the beginning. They have recruited me hard and been behind me all of the way and I won’t forget that,” he said. “Plus the football and basketball teams are really solid and I love what I have seen of the campus.”
The Marshall Thundering Herd have also offered McCray, who traveled this summer with the Coast to Coast and Breakdown AAU traveling teams, and they reside right at the top of his list.
“Football wise, Marshall is a solid program and they have had some successful players who play in the league (NFL),” McCray said. “Also there is early playing time on the basketball team available and I believe that could build a successful program in hoops as well as football.”
With so many options available to him, McCray indicated that he was not in a rush to make his decision.
“I have no idea right now where I am going. But I know the first thing that I am going to do is take my SAT,” he said. “After that I will start setting up my officials and then trying to figure out which schools suits me the best.”
Last season McCray averaged 17 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
