Rivals150 guard De'Anthony Melton committed to USC via Twitter on Wednesday.
Melton's defense and toughness not only earned him a No. 145 overall ranking in the senior class, it earned him high major offers.
After taking a weekend visit to see Andy Enfield and the USC Trojans, sources indicated to Rivals.com that The 6-foot-3 guard from Encino (Calif.) had canceled this weekend's planned trip to San Diego State and committed to Enfield.
Melton confirmed that news via his twitter account.
The second member of the class of 2016 to commit to USC, Melton joins three-star big man Harrison Henderson from Texas who is a skinny and athletic frontcourt player. What Melton will bring to the table will be warmly welcomed in Los Angeles.
While the Trojans have loaded up on some fine wing talent the past few years -- four-stars Bennie Boatwright and Elijah Stewart come to mind -- they haven't landed a player who is the competitor and tough guy that Melton is. Whether it has been with his high school or with his club team California Supreme in Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League, Melton's ability to defend multiple backcourt positions has stuck out.
Though his defense stands out, Melton isn't a slouch offensively. He is athletic, drives to the rim quickly and is built to take and finish through contact. His jumper is respectable and his energy is the kind that rubs off on those around him.
I am proud and excited to Announce that I will be committing to The university of Southern California #Fighton pic.twitter.com/bHcyBLil3s- . (@DeAnthonyMelton) September 16, 2015
