Trey Doomes gives latest on five schools involved in recruitment

Trey Doomes has been a known prospect in Georgia for quite some time as his Allatoona program played for the state championship in both his freshman and sophomore years. As a junior this past season, he led his team to the state semifinals before losing to four-star wing Landers Nolley and his Langston Hughes team.

Playing with Nike Team Florida in the Nike EYBL this year has helped Doomes become a more known prospect outside of the Peach State and has boosted his recruitment as well. Ole Miss recently offered the three-star point guard. South Florida’s new staff did as well, and also had him on campus for an unofficial visit. Florida Gulf Coast has been on Doomes hard for a while now too.

Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt have also been involved in his recruitment.

IN HIS WORDS

Ole Miss: “They said they like me a lot. They said I’m their top prospect and they can’t wait to see me play during July. I talk to the assistants there a lot.”

South Florida: “I like them a lot. Coach [Chad] Dollar, he’s been in contact with me since he was at Auburn. Coach [Brian] Gregory saw me a lot during the first couple live periods and he likes my game. The campus is really nice. I was surprised when I went down there for a visit. I think if they just get some players they could do something.”

Georgia: “Coach [Jonas] Hayes has been in contact with me a lot. They just want to get me down for an official visit. They like me a lot as well. I like them. They just need a couple more players this year and next year to do some things.”

Georgia Tech: “Coach [Josh] Pastner talks to me a lot actually. He tells me I’d fit in perfectly with their program as far as academics and basketball. They talk to me a good bit.”

Clemson: “They’ve been on me for a while. I’ve been up there four or five times. It’s really nice. I was up there before the arena was renovated and I went back since and it is really nice. The atmosphere is crazy.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

Up next for Doomes will be a trip to Augusta where Nike Team Florida will be in the play-in game for the Nike Peach Jam. The three live periods this month will be big for Doomes as he tries to establish himself as a legitimate high-major prospect. Once July ends, he said he’ll look at his options and figure where to go from there with visits and a decision.

RIVALS’ REACTION

South Florida certainly made a strong impression on Doomes during his recent visit. The Bulls will be a factor with him going forward. Clemson, Georgia and Georgia Tech are three schools to watch if they decide to ramp up the pressure on Doomes. Lastly, don’t sleep on Florida Gulf Coast as it has been working hard to stay in the picture.
