The 2016-17 season has been difficult at times for Georgetown, but the future of the Big East program is very promising. After all, point guard Tremont Waters is on the way.
On Saturday at the HoopHall Classic, the future Hoya from New Haven (Conn.) Notre Dame started out hot and never let up as he led his team to a big win over Archbishop Molloy.
Though he's on the smaller side, the 5-foot-10 point guard more than makes up for things with his natural gifts, super polished skillset, and entertaining flair for the game. He had the crowd on its feet for the majority of his outing while knocking down seven threes and dishing out seven assists. His 29 points were a game-high as the Connecticut native looks more than ready to step in next year and be a catalyst of change for the Georgetown program.
“Just to come in and run the show,” said Waters when asked what his future head coach John Thompson III expects of him.
Waters told Rivals.com that he's hoping to bring back some of the flash and excitement that Allen Iverson provided during his time as a Hoya.
There does need to be further progression with Waters game. He needs to get stronger and he can continue to improve his shot selection. But, he has the tools to develop into a star in the Big East and is capable of making an instant impact as a freshman.
Waters and his future coach are in constant contact and the message from Thompson is clear.
“Pretty much he just told me to keep doing what I am doing," said Waters. "Keep watching film, keeping improving, and get in the weight room."
