It wasn't all that long ago that a 6-foot-6 junior forward named Carmelo Anthony started turning heads at Towson Catholic High School in Towson, MD. While the Owls may not have the next Carmelo in the pipeline, a pair of sophomores are drawing an enormous amount of major college interest this season.
This season the fortunes of 17-4 Towson Catholic, ranked #3 in the Baltimore area, seem to rest on the shoulders of a sophomore in his first year with the Owls. 6-foot-3 175 pound guard Malcolm Delaney, a transfer from McDonogh where he was a two sport star playing QB on the football field, has become the go to guy on offense for Towson, and has responded by averaging 17 points and 5 assists per game.

"I wanted to stop playing football and concentrate on basketball, and that wasn't really an option at McDonogh," Delaney told us. "I just felt like I had a better chance of making it to the next level with basketball."
Delaney is an outstanding perimeter shooter, both catch and shoot, and off the dribble. He's savvy, and can use the bounce effectively to get by defenders, though he'll need to improve his strength to deal with the physical guard play at the high major level.
Delaney told us that Maryland, NC State, Georgetown, Louisville, Virginia Tech, and Clemson have been in contact. He likes North Carolina and Wake Forest, though they've yet to show interest. He took unofficial visits to Georgetown, NC State, and Maryland this fall, including Maryland's elaborate midnight madness celebration.
While he said that no official scholarship offers are on the table, there is one school that has started down that road.
"Maryland said they'd take me," Delaney told us.
Towson Catholic has benefited immensely from the addition of Delaney, but it has turned out to be a case of the rich getting richer, as the Owls already had another sophomore stud in the program.
6-foot-8 215 pound Donte Green is in his second year at Towson Catholic, and he's rapidly gaining a reputation as the most promising young big man in the area.
Green is long and active at both ends of the floor. He is aggressive on the glass and has a smooth stroke from 14 feet and in.
Maryland, Georgetown, Connecticut, North Carolina, Florida State, Clemson and NC State have shown early recruiting interest, and he says that Georgetown and Maryland have already offered scholarships.
"I may take unofficial visits after the season to Maryland, Georgetown, and Connecticut," Green said.
Green is averaging 14 points and 9 rebounds per game this year for the Owls.
Towson Catholic coach Mike Daniels told Rivals.com recently, "Both of them love to play. Dante, once his body develops is going to be a great player. His strength is his rebounding. He's been injured lately, but has gutted it out."
"Delaney is a heady player," Daniels continued. "He has a great jumpshot. I have them for two more years, but they are very interesting right now."
Both are great students in the classroom and should qualify with no problem.
Look for both to play this spring and summer with the Mount Royal AAU squad on the Nike circuit.
