It's never pretty when Tabor Academy plays, but you can't argue with Coach David First's team's success. Tabor's 2-3 zone once again slowed down and frustrated a highly regarded opponent. This time it was Virginia Beach Salem and Maryland bound star guard John Gilchrist.
Gilchrist never seemed able to find his groove as he shot 6-22 from the field, including 1-10 from three-point line. He finished with 14 points.
Tabor, on the other hand, got a dominating performance from it's star Torin
Francis (signed with Notre Dame). Francis had 24 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks.
Francis was the anchor of Tabor's suffocating defense. The defense shut down any penetration from Salem and forced them to rely on outside shooting. This
proved fatal for Salem.
Salem attempted 30 three-pointers. They hit only eight for 26 percent. Only Tabor's
turnovers kept the game close.
Senior James Parker had 17 points for Tabor on five of eight shooting from three-point point range. Tabor will now face Bronx All Hallows (NY) in tonight's semifinal.
