Toppin Is JUCO Sleeper

Obidiah Toppin, a 6'7'' 210 pound combo forward from Globe Institute of Technology in Manhattan, is a sleeper in the junior college ranks who has opened some eyes.
St. John's recently was on hand to evaluate Toppin. Others who have called to inquire or express interest include Manhattan, Ohio University, San Jose State, San Francisco, and Penn State. Manhattan has offered, according to Globe coach Dan Nigro.

Toppin competed this summer at the Real Scout Invitational at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he impressed Rivalshoops.com with his ability to score in the low post. Toppin just knows how to put it in the hoop. He is crafty with his back to the basket, and is a very competent mid-range shooter. Toppin has great length, and handles very well for his size. He can put it on the deck and slash a bit, as well as pitch in on the glass.
"He's very talented, just raw," said Nigro. "He hasn't had a whole lot of structure(basketball-wise). I think his second year at junior college, he's really going to be something."
Rivalshoops.com recently checked out Obidiah against Notre Dame Prep, a game in which the sophomore scored 21 points in helping Globe to a decisive win. Toppin is one of the leading scorers in the NJCAA Division I, averaging about 25 points per game.
Toppin played last year at Eastern Oklahoma Junior College. The 23-year old native of Queens played for coach Ron Naclerio at Cardozo High School in Bayside, New York, as a prep.
According to Globe coach Dan Nigro, Toppin should predict academically.
"He should be fine(academically)," said Nigro. "In the worst case, he may have to go to summer school."
