Top talent performs in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS-The Nike All American camp is in full swing with multiple elite basketball prospects showing off their skills for college coaches from coast to coast.

Most college coaching staffs have a coach at each of the three big events this week, including the adidas camp in Atlanta and the ABCD camp in New Jersey in addition to the Nike event. The number of head coaches from top programs, however, in Indianapolis is staggering, meaning that a good number of targets for some of the major players in college basketball are in Indy this weekend.

Jim Calhoun (Connecticut), Bruce Weber (Illinois), Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Lute Olson (Arizona), Paul Hewitt (Georgia Tech), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Tubby Smith (Kentucky), Roy Williams (North Carolina), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Frank Haith (Miami, Fla.), Seth Greenburg (Virginia Tech), Rick Pitino (Louisville), Dennis Felton (Georgia), Ben Howland (UCLA), Jamie Dixon (Pittsburgh), Bob Huggins (Cincinnati), John Thompson III (Georgetown), Mike Brey (Notre Dame), Al Skinner (Boston College), Herb Sendek (North Carolina State), Steve Alford (Iowa), Mike Davis (Indiana), Ernie Kent (Oregon), Bo Ryan (Wisconsin), Tom Crean (Marquette), Tommy Amaker (Michigan), Ben Braun (California), Trent Johnson (Stanford), Oliver Purnell (Clemson), Jeff Lebo (Auburn) and Dave Odom (South Carolina) all have been spotted scouting players.

Olson and Wildcats assistant Josh Pastner followed class of 2007 point guard Jerryd Bayless, a Phoenix native, around through all drill work and all games. Bayless was said to have had a great performance.

Coach K and Blue Devils assistant Steve Wojciechowski were seen personally scouting Spencer Hawes and Brandan Wright during the event. Hawes, Rivals.com's No. 4 prospect in the class of 2006, did not get a lot of touches and scored only 2 points under the watchful eye of the Duke coaches.

Coach K also watched Chris Wright, a class of 2007 prospect, matched up against class of 2006 Illinois point guard Sherron Collins, the nation's second-ranked point guard prospect. Collins got the best of Wright and was explosive to the basket and hit several key shots.

Kyle Singler was injured during Tuesday night action. He is getting an MRI on his knee Thursday and didn't play Wednesday.

A pair of ACC-bound prospects had performances of note. Maryland commit Landon Milbourne shot the ball very well from the outside and has had a good camp. Milbourne, from Roswell, Ga., is Rivals.com's No. 110-ranked overall prospect in the class of 2006 and is the No. 25 small forward prospect. Florida State-bound John Kreft measured in at 7-feet barefoot and showed off a very physical and effective game.

Baltimore's Dajuan Summers had a very good night Wednesday shooting the ball and driving to the basket. The Georgetown commit is the No. 71 player in the class of 2006 rankings. Another Maryland prospect, Greivis Vasquez was one of the better passers at the camp at 6-foot-5.

Han Shuo, a 6-foot-5 Chinese guard also showed solid passing skills. Nike is working hand-in-hand with the Chinese national basketball team to help develop talent. While China feels good about its big men, it is in dire need of better guard play. Liu Xiaoyu is another Chinese national working out in Indianapolis.

Playing his typical physical and aggressive game, Obi Muonelo, one of Rivals.com's five-star rated prospects and the No. 27 overall prospect in the class of 2006, impressed by shooting the ball well.

Patrick Christopher , who recently re-opened his recruitment after committing to California, drilled five 3-pointers in team play Wednesday night. Christopher also was very active on the boards, was very good on defense and out-played North Carolina-bound William Graves. As far as his recruiting, Christopher says that the Bears still are very much in the picture and that he is also considering Arizona, Kansas and Texas, though the Wildcats, Jayhawks and Longhorns have not yet started to recruit him.

Ramar Smith played well and says he will visit Michigan State, Arkansas, Illinois, UConn and Arizona during the fall and make his choice from those five schools.

Class of 2008 prospect Cordell Passley, an early Tennessee commit, hit several big shots from the outside and took the ball to the basket well using his 6-foot-2, 193-pound frame.

Combo forward Kevin Coble took steps to prove he is a high-major prospect rather than a mid-major prospect. He shot the ball well from all areas of the court, rebounded well and impressed with tough hustle plays.

Jamil Tucker is progressing into a very attractive high-major prospect. He shot the ball very well and is starting to make stronger physical plays. He also made nice passes during the action.

Jujuan Jones ran the point guard for his team and made great passes in the open court. He used both his right and left hand well.
