Kalen Grimes, a 6-foot-8, 265-pound power forward from Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant, Missouri is one of the top overall players in the class of 2004.
Grimes recently trimmed his list of schools down to five and officially named a leader for his services.

RivalsHoops.com ranks Grimes as the 13th best player in the class of 2004 and gave him a perfect five stars. Every high major college in America is interested in the highly talented big man, but it appears that only five schools remain on his list.
“Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Kentucky are the top five schools that I’m really interested in,” Grimes said. “I’ve been talking with my family and my coach about my recruitment and I’m leaning towards Kansas right now."
Grimes will spend the summer traveling with his St. Louis Eagles AAU teammates. He has also been selected to play in several individual events.
“I’ll be traveling to Bloomington, Indiana for the Nike Memorial Day classic,” he said. “I’ve also been invited to Colorado Spring for the USA Developmental Festival, the NBA Players Association Camp and Nike All-American Camp.”
While Grimes intends to enjoy some of the prestigious events, he will also use the high level of competition to improve certain areas of his game.
“I’m going to work on improving my jump-shot and my post moves,” he said. “I also plan on spending a lot of time in the weight room.”
Grimes indicated that he might split up his official visits and take some during the early period and some next fall.
There is a possibility that he could make an early decision in terms of his collegiate destination, but he wasn’t certain when that might be.
