Top-50 wing Khavon Moore pledges to Texas Tech

Chris Beard secured his first top-50 commitment Monday as 2018 wing Khavon Moore pledged to Texas Tech. One of the more versatile prospects in his class and a top-five available recruit this winter, Moore is a tremendous addition for the Big 12 program.

Moore took an official visit to Lubbock this weekend as he was treated to a game that pitted the Red Raiders against Kansas, a contest that was spotlighted by ESPN’s College Game Day. It was the atmosphere, playing style and fit that stood out to Moore at the end of the day.

"They just have a great coaching staff and a great environment," he said. "I am going to be able to make an impact on the team right away as a freshman."

The No. 44-ranked prospect in the 2018 class, Moore had already spent official visits on Florida and Mercer, the former taking place in September while the trip to the Southern Conference program occurring the weekend prior to his trip to Texas Tech. Another was scheduled to Oklahoma for next weekend as Ohio State, Tennessee, and Louisville remained in the picture.

What Texas Tech is getting with Moore is a multi-dimensional, 6-foot-8 wing that can play three positions on either end. While he has been knocked in the past for his jump shooting skills, what makes Moore such a valuable prospect is his ability to play on the ball and create for others. He is also an underrated volume rebounder that can be used in a bevy of ways on the defensive end.

Moore becomes Texas Tech’s second class of 2018 commitment as he will join three-star guard Kyler Edwards. The Raiders will lose Keenan Evans, Justin Gray, Zach Smith, Niem Stevenson and Tommy Hamilton to graduation but have also secured the transfer commitments of former Rivals150 guard CJ Roberts and junior college guard DeShawn Corprew, a once highly lauded prospect known for his two-way abilities.
