Ever since taking over the job at Marquette, Steve Wojciechowski and his staff have been on an impressive recruiting run. Wojo landed his fifth Rivals150 prospect in just his second full year of recruiting when four-star forward Brendan Bailey committed to Marquette on Tuesday.
Ranked No. 48 overall, Bailey is a 6-foot-7 forward from Highland (Utah) American Fork who initially committed to Arizona State but opened things up in March when Herb Sendek was let go.
In a twist that played into Marquette's favor, they hired assistant coach Stan Johnson away from Arizona State during the summer. Johnson had been the Sun Devils point man during Bailey's recruitment to ASU and when he arrived at Marquette he was able to get them into the game with Bailey.
Although he will graduate as a member of the 2016 high school class, Bailey will take a Mormon mission before enrolling and will arrive on campus for the 2018-19 season.
The competition to land Bailey wasn't easy but Marquette has landed a player with a versatile set of skills and ability.
Bailey's biggest strength is his jump-shooting and mid-range game. He moves around the court fluidly and is an intelligent player facing the basket. Because of his size, he can also play as a face up four-man in a lineup designed to go small and stretch defenses.
The son of former NBA player Thurl Bailey, he has excellent bloodlines and is the second member of Marquette's recruiting class joining Rivals150 wing Sam Hauser.
