Oregon went across the nation for its second notable commitment from a 2018 class member today coming in the form of four-star guard Will Richardson. A talented, skilled, versatile and shot making top-50 guard, Richardson selected the Ducks over Gonzaga and Georgia on Thursday, giving Dana Altman an immediate backcourt weapon for next year.
A breakout summer pushed Richardson from a regional recruit to a national one thanks to his ability to put points on the scoreboard quickly, and play the point-guard spot.
“They are going to need a guard to come in and get minutes right away. It is just a great fit and they need me to come in and play right away,” he said. “I feel like we have a strong class this year and a great chance to make a tournament run next year."
Similar to that of recent Oregon standout Tyler Dorsey, Richardson is best served in a scoring role but is more than solid enough to be given reins of the point guard position. On the Nike circuit this summer, the Each 1 Teach 1 standout averaged 13.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, all while making half of his field goal tries.
Oregon now sits with a top-10 recruiting class nationally and the second best within the Pac 12. The Ducks will enroll five-star small forward Lou King and four-star power forward Miles Norris, along with Richardson, next fall. They remain the heavy favorite for five-star center Bol Bol, a prospect that is due to commit within the coming days.
