With Rick Pitino on his way out the door at Louisville, five-star combo guard Anfernee Simons and four-star point guard recruit Courtney Ramey have elected to reopen their recruitments.

Simons announced that he would be opening his recruitment via his Twitter account while Ramey's father Terrell Ramey confirmed the news to Rivals.com and said that the entire situation caught his son and family off guard.

“I talked to coach (David) Padgett and we are opening it up," Ramey told Rivals.com. "I know it’s a screwed up situation and they kept me in the loop and were great throughout the process. It sucks that he won’t be a part of that program and with those guys and it was such a surprise to wake up and see all of this happening. But it’s time to move on.”

A point guard who creates for others who has tremendous size and is a lock down defender, Ramey is going to be highly sought after. For now, there is no list of schools and uneasiness over the federal investigation into hoops recruiting will only complicate the matter

"With stuff happening so quick the main thing you would think is who recruited him before Louisville," said Ramey's father. "We are open right now but so much has transpired since then. We are going to look at depth charts and who needs guards but we are wide open.

"Also who knows what is going to happen with all of this investigation stuff. It's hard to know what to do next."

In Ramey, there is a perfect example of somebody who tried to do things the right way but is now left to start from square one.

“I’ve been doing this a long time and tried to keep my son out of the way and reach of bad people," said Ramey. "We wanted to get it out of the way early so he could have a great senior year and he wanted to be respectful to everybody in the recruiting process but now he's got to go through this (stuff) all over again."
