Duke got things started in the 2019 class on Sunday as they landed the commitment of top-25 junior forward Joey Baker.
A 6-foot-7 combo forward prospect that is known for his athleticism and hard playing nature, Baker is a tremendous start in the 2019 class for the Blue Devils.
A tremendous long-term prospect that can defend multiple positions, create his own offense and is one of the top athletes in his 2019 graduating class, Baker becomes the first member of Duke’s 2019 recruiting haul. Attending Trinity Christian School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, very rarely have the Blue Devils taken a non-senior commitment, though Baker’s versatility and talent level was something that Coach K and his squad could not decline.
Running on the Under Armour circuit with the Team Felton 17-under unit this summer, Baker averaged over 14 points and four rebounds per game, all while providing valuable defense in the frontcourt. He becomes the youngest prospect to commit to the Blue Devils since Luke Kennard pledged to the ACC program during the winter of his junior year.
The Blue Devils will refocus their attention back onto the 2018 class as the first signing period nears next week. Duke boasts the commitments of five-star guard Tre Jones and wing Cam Reddish as they remain in the mix for top-five seniors Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett.
