Multiple sources confirmed to Rivals.com that 6-foot-5 product of Baton Rouge (La.) St. Michael, who currently ranks No. 96 in the class of 2015 ended his recruitment in favor of the Bearcats on Tuesday.
In Evans, Cincinnati is getting a jack of all trades type of wing whose game is based on toughness, high basketball IQ and having a sense for making the right play. He can shoot when the jumper is available, he uses his strong frame to shield defenders on drives to the hoop and he is a very good defender and rebounder for his position.
Most of all, Evans is a winner which he showed during the summer as he willed his Louisiana Dynasty team all the way to the championship game of the Fab 48 in Las Vegas at the end of July.
That Mick Cronin and his staff were able to land a top 100 player isn't a surprise. Under Cronin's direction the Bearcats have been consistent NCAA Tournament contenders and wings like Lance Stephenson and Sean Kilpatrick have been given plenty of freedom to do their thing. However, many had expected that Evans may end up at Tulane after the Green Wave hired his summer coach Quannas White in August.
While he has the strength and skill level to be immediately productive in the American Athletic Conference, Evans will need to work on his lateral quickness to consistently defend high major wings but he is a pretty safe bet to be a solid four year player.
Evans is the third player to pick Cincinnati from the class of 2015. He joins Rivals150 point guard Justin Jenifer and three-star power forward Trevon Scott.
