One of the biggest changes for any player going from high school to college is
how much stronger players are on the collegiate level. Many times, physical
readiness plays a large part in the early success or struggles of players during
their early years in college. In the class of 2013, there are no shortage of
physical players and it's not just the big guys that like to muscle up.
1. PF Julius Randle
School: Plano (Texas) Prestonwood Christian
The Buzz: The best
player in the class of 2013 is also the most physical. The powerful 240 pounder
looks to create contact on each and every possession and already plays a grown
man's game when it comes to flexing his muscle.
2.
PG Andrew Harrison
School: Fort Bend (Texas) Travis
The Buzz: There isn't a bigger bully at the point guard position.
As if his high level of skill and feel for the game weren't enough, he turns
each matchup into a tough man contest and always comes out on top.
3. SG Aaron Harrison
School: Fort Bend (Texas) Travis
The Buzz: There isn't a
two guard in the country who does a better job of getting to the free throw line
than Harrison. He leads with his shoulders, uses his hips to displace defenders
and never back down from somebody looking to play tough.
4. PF Zena Edosomwan
School: Northfield (Mass.) Mount Hermon
The Buzz: Ivy Leaguers better be getting their body armor up
because this Harvard commitment is going to be looking to trade elbows. There's
nothing dirty about the way he plays, but he will put a body on you and always
goes hard.
5. SG Wayne Selden
School: Tilton (N.H.) School
The Buzz: Checking in at nearly 230 pounds, Selden is built more
like your typical tight end than a high school shooting guard. An explosive
athlete, Selden's ability to strong arm opponents is a big advantage.
6. PG Demetrius Jackson
School: Mishawaka (Ind.) Marian
The Buzz: There are other
guys on this list who are bigger and stronger than the 180 pound Jackson, but he
back down from no man. His physicality really shows on the defensive end where
he has little trouble fighting through picks and using his strength to control
opponents.
7. SF Semi Ojeleye
School: Ottawa (Kan.) High
The Buzz: The recent Duke commit is a power wing who has
the strength of an interior player and build of a football player. He seeks
contact around the rim, plays strong and isn't going to get pushed around as a
freshman.
8. PF Eric Mika
School: Highland (Utah) Lone Peak
The Buzz: From the looks of it, BYU has an enforcer on
their hands. Mika is a rugged interior player who seems to be ready to scrap as
soon as he walks in the door. Given that he's got good skill too, it's easy to
expect big things from him in Provo.
9. C John Egbunu
School: McDonough (Ga.) Eagle's Landing
The Buzz: He's big, he's strong and he tries to dunk everything. If
somebody happens to get in his way, well then, he'll try to dunk them too. The
USF commitment might have the strongest hands in the high school ranks.
10. SF Ishmail Wainright
School: Rockville (Md.) Montrose Christian
The Buzz: Because of his strength and ability to control guys
physically, Wainright is one of the most versatile defenders in the country. The
230 pounder is strong enough to guard post players and agile enough to defend
out on the wing.
