Timmy Smith Has Some Interest

Of all the players on this year's Hargrave Military Academy squad, Timmy Smith is the lone holdover from last year's squad.
Smith, a sharp-shooting 5-9, 155 pound point guard from Newport News, Va., made some big plays down the stretch in Hargrave's recent 105-100 victory over Celestial Prep.

Each time that Celestial Prep whittled away at Hargrave's second half double digit bulge, it was Smith who canned the big three pointer or came up with the key loose ball or found an open teammate for an easy deuce.
And Smith had to perform, since starter Stanley Asumnu had fouled out of the contest midway through the second half.
According to Hargrave Head Coach Mike Preston, Marquette has expressed an interest in Smith and is planning to evaluate him in the near future.
Prior to enrolling at Hargrave in the fall of 2000, Smith attended Denbigh H.S. and gained some notoriety playing with the Boo Williams AAU program out of the Tidewater region.
Smith has always been an offensive minded point guard, so it was no surprise that he racked up 16 points in the win over Celestial. But a more poised and productive game from the point position (eight assists) is what really made the southpaw slinger stand out.
Although he has a very awkward low release point on his three point shot, Smith can bury the three pointer in bunches when he gets rolling. He also appeared to be in very good shape, which is also critical since he has the kind of body frame that can be susceptible to excess pounds.
Coach Preston said that Smith is working on both his core grades and test score this fall at Hargrave.
The Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com will keep you posted on his court and classroom exploits this winter, so stay tuned.
