Three-star Vassell commits to Florida State

Three-star guard Devin Vassell committed to Florida State on Tuesday night.

This time a month ago, little was known about Vassell. A 6-foot-3 shooting guard that had a limited recruitment heading into the spring evaluation periods, Vassell picked up a Florida State offer in the middle of April, and a few weeks later he pledged to the Seminoles.

Hitting the floor in Indianapolis this past weekend at the Elevate Hoops-Terrific 24 event alongside the Georgia Tornadoes travel program, Vassell showed one trait that all college coaches have come to covet: being able to shoot the basketball. While the wiry two-guard does have to get stronger, shot-making is in Vassell’s DNA, all of which led to his commitment to Florida State.

While the recruitment of Vassell was rather quick and to the point, the 2018 guard felt wanted at FSU.

“It just felt right,” he said. “The coaches just made me feel like I’m at home and they gave me my first opportunity to play high-major basketball. The coaches just really believe in me as a player and as a person.”

The first commitment in the 2018 class for Florida State, Vassell is a nice starting point for the Seminoles thanks to his size and ability to put the ball through the basket. However, FSU remains in the hunt for one more this spring in finishing out its 2017 class as they are in the mix for five-star prospects MJ Walker and Kevin Knox.
