Three-star Saddiq Bey adding offers, interest

INDIANAPOLIS – There has never been a shortage of talent within the loaded DMV region and the 2018 class, despite it being more of a down year nationally, is a perfect example of that. A new name that has caused a stir this spring is Saddiq Bey, a 6-foot-5 small forward that brings major versatility and upside to the court.

Suiting up for the DC Premier 17-under team this spring and summer on the UAA circuit, Bey has seen his college recruitment take a giant bump in recent weeks.

“Northwestern, Temple, Miami, Notre Dame and Rhode Island probably talk to me the most.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Within the past week alone, Bey has picked up offers from Georgetown, Pitt, Rutgers, George Washington and a number of other programs. He spoke on a few schools that are currently standing out in his recruitment:

Miami: “He (Jim Larranaga) is a remarkable coach. He used to coach George Mason and I know a lot about him. Chris Lykes goes there; he is where I am from. I just think they are in the best conference in college basketball and they are a great school.”

Northwestern: “Early on, before I had any offers, I was always interested in Northwestern. They have always been on top of my list. Coach (Chris) Collins is a great coach. He has done a lot with them and turning that program around. They play in a really good conference and it is a really good school.

Temple: “They have a great coach with Coach (Fran) Dunphy, but he is more than just a good coach; he is a great person. They have a really good team and play in a really good conference.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Bey does not have a timetable for his decision, but hopes to take several visits this summer.

“I am planning on going on a few visits next month. I have to plan it out now but a lot of my top schools I would like to get down to,” he said. “I am open to everything right now. I am just waiting to see what happens and make a decision later on but I am not really thinking about that right now.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Bey is the ideal prospect for coaches that have come to covet versatile players. Thanks to his toughness, rapid progressions and grades in the classroom, things remain on the upward trajectory with the do-it-all wing. Temple, Northwestern, Miami and Notre Dame sit in a fine spot with Bey at this point in his recruitment.
